Jambo! (Greeting in Swahili)

Welcome to my Writings

My love for writing brings me immense joy through the use of imagination and fantasy to create, read and entertain myself and others.

The following are other writing projects that have either been published or are works in progress.

Climbing Jakob's Ladder

I started writing this story in 1997 after a long-time patient of mine passed away.  This is a work of fiction based on this real patient who suffered from a severe condition of cerebral palsy.

The story is about Jakob's struggles and how he - although severely handicapped - had significant impact upon other people's lives for the better.

30 Days Hath September

When I was a fourth-year medical student at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, I took care of a patient in the hospital who was admitted on September 1st of that year.  She had been admitted for "stomach" problems and also to determine what caused a "spot" to show up on an x-ray in her abdominal area.  It turned out to be cancerous and she passed away on September 30th.

The fictional story is based on this event and revolves around an arrogant medical student who is befriended by a dying patient.  This patient ultimately had life-changing impact on him and his career.

Be Well - Strategies for Living a Good Life

This is a book on the many ways we can improve our lives through Emotional, Mental, Spiritual, Financial, Nutritional, Physical, Intellectual, Transitional, and Social Well Being.  The book explores ways we can enhance our well being through various activities such as forest bathing, meditation, journaling etc.

A tale of two diseases (a blessing and a curse?)

I wrote this story after my mom passed away in 2016.  She was always afraid of getting liver cancer and "old-timers" but ironically ended up with both.  This is a story about how two deadly diseases cancelled each other out.

October 18th (The day I turned the same age as my dad)

This is a deeply heart-felt story that I wrote just after I turned the same age as my dad when he passed.  I read this story every year, around October, and always seem to make changes to it every year!
